Okay, so the worst season in Washington, D.C. has just started. The kids are starting come to DC for their school trips and the tourists are not far behind. The reason this is the worst time of the year is because these kids don't have a clue when they go to lunch or run around the city. They are all between 12 and 15 and they have no idea of the set rules and regulation that exist in DC.
- you don't crowd the lunch counter, there is an orderly way to order and pick up that hamburger and burrito.
- don't block the sidewalk trying to figure out where the White House is or waiting for your bus to pick you up. Move to the side, we only have an hour for lunch and need to move it.
- that also goes for the escalator, walk on the left, stand on the right.
- don't bring your kids with you on the Metro during rush hour traffic or to a breakfast joint in the city. They are slow and block the way of busy workers headed off to the job.
- your life is not that important, don't yell about it on the Metro.
- just wait until you reach my age and become an old curmudgeon, you will realize how stupid you are.
Number 6 is dedicated to me. I am sure when I was a boy scout and touring NYC and DC, I was just this bad. But now I understand the dirty looks I got for being a dumb tourist. Now when I go on vacation I try not to be the dumb tourist.

me too. Of course, when I was in London the last time, every time we'd do something touristy we'd call ourselves "Tacky Americans" in a disgusted British accent. I try to blend most of the time, though.
I think we've all learned an important lesson here: try to be respectful of other people.
It's a lesson I think not a single Italian touring Eastern Europe has learned.
